The Hearse

Near the South door stands an interesting little trolley which is a hand pulled hearse. Commonly known as "The Bier Trolley", it has large wheels with wooden spokes and solid rubber tyres. The four wheels are supported on double bowed suspension, the front being articulated with a folding hand pull. It is estimated to be over 100 years old!

The Parish Cemetery

Chapel view
Location
The cemetery for the parish church of St. Dionysius is located on the Northampton road on the southern outskirts of the town. The grounds, dating back to the 1800's, lie on a long and narrow stretch of land and are beautifully laid out with a driveway along the centre of it's length, with a Victorian styled chapel (shown above) set in it's centre.

insideInside the Chapel
This attractive little building was built in 1877, and is open most days. Inside the chapel, the most noticeable feature are the tightly packed array of long, steeply sloping rafters supporting the roof. There are a few rows of small, open pews and a simple alter beneath a gothic arched East window. Attached to the chapel is a further small room and en suite toilets.

The cemetery is open every day, but closes at 4.00pm.
