After much debate, speculation
and controversy over recent years, car parking charges have been introduced
throughout Harborough's car parks. Though charges seem to be fairly modest
(20p) for the first hour, rising to a maximum of £3.00 per day,
the result has had a twofold effect across the town.
Firstly, many central
streets appear to have born the brunt of cars parked along the roadside,
wreaking havoc for passing traffic and blocking driveways to local premises.
Secondly, shoppers have been spoilt for choice when looking for parking
spaces in the main carparks, which have been relatively deserted, even
on busy days and peak times.
The car park at Angel Row has been designated as a "long stay"
park, with a maximum charge of £1,50 per day, while shoppers using
the car Park at Sainsbury's can get up to 2 hours refund in store if making
a purchase of £5.00 or more.
