22/12/99 - 23/12/99 Harborough lit by lunar luminance.

Early birds in Market Harborough had a good view of the second major astronomical event of the year, when the full moon was at it's brightest for more than a century. Those of us about between the hours of 4:00am and 6:00am witnessed the incredible intensity of moonshine when rain clouds cleared to reveal the spectacle. According to the experts, the moon was at it's closest point to the earth in more than a hundred years, and this coupled with the earth being at it's closest to the sun, triggered the event. In stark contrast, the most noticeable thing about the bright moonlight, was how dark the shadows appeared.
