The Peacock

This Georgian building was built in the 17th century and was at first a private house, before being converted into a hotel in 1872. In 1989 it closed, despite extensive restoration work several years earlier. Standing on St Mary's road at the gateway to the new shopping centre - St. Mary's Place, it reopened on the 8th December 1993 as a Tea Room called The Nutmeg Tree.
