The Pergolas

Remembrance Garden Gates

Entrance to The SquareThe Remembrance Garden is dedicated to local people who have lost their lives at war. The gates at the main entrance came from Gopsal Hall, and originate from Northampton. Pillars either side of the centre bear a brass plaque inscribed with the names of those lost in the 1939 - 1945 World War. Just inside the gates there stands a plaque in tribute to "The patriotism of those who volunteered for service in the South African War of 1899 - 1902".
In November 2000, a special display was staged in honour of our past service personnel. See the Chronology section for details.

The picture (left) shows the natural beauty of the walkway through the pergolas, which has since been cleared and replanted. Once you step through the gates from the busy day to day activities of the town centre (right), the garden greets you with a beautiful air of calm and tranquillity. The perfect place to stop and ponder for a while.
